How to Measure for Curtains

When you measure for curtains, be sure to use a metal tape measure. Fabric tape measures can stretch and bend, so the measurement may not be as accurate.

1.Measure your windows first to ensure an accurate measurement for your curtains/drapes from one side of a window to the other side straight and flat

2. Add an additional 6 to 8 inches to that figure. This is how far your rod will normally extend beyond the window frame.

3. Divide this figure by two. For example: If the total width of your window from one side to another is 30 inches wide and you’ve added an extra 8 inches, 38 inches is the figure you will finally use. If you want to hang two panels, one on each side, each panel would need to be a minimum of 19 inches. You can always have wider panels.
